A Journey of Wonders

SYNOPSIS

A Journey of Wonders explores the absurdity and challenges of staging a complex performance during the 2020 international covid-19 lockdown.

The film documents the worlds of outrageously innovative composers, performers, visual artists, archivists, researchers, and thinkers to record their effort to say something significant about worlds that have been eliminated from popular memory.

The performance, “A Seadrift of Songs” is about the narratives of six slave women running away from the ruins of the Baghdad that made them famous…in chains and - how the ensemble, separated by distance was able to work together to produce such a multi-layered work to stage a complex production about migration at a time when people were not allowed to travel.

Director Biography - Thabo Bopape

Thabo Bopape is a late burgeoning producer and documentary film director, with experience in television and broadcasting, and over 20 years of experience in large-scale events production and management.

In 2021, during his studies towards a master of documentary arts degree through the Centre for Film Studies at UCT, Thabo found himself catapulted into short-form documentary film production with three films, “Daughters of The Soil”, “Ngoma Lungundu”, and “A Journey of Wonders”.
